A S M Ali Kabir Serniabat is Chairman (Secretary to the Government) of the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC, since 17 January 2021). He passed BA and MA from the Department of English at the University of Dhaka in 1972 and 1973 respectively. He started his career as Lecturer in English at Mirzapur Cadet College. In 1976, he joined Bangladesh Bank. Since joining the civil service in 1979, he served the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industries before retiring as Secretary to the Government in 2011. A S M Ali Kabir Serniabat also writes poetry, short stories, and essays apart from translating.
