Aminul Islam Bhuiyan

Md. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan is former Secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He had his Bachelor’s and Master’s in English from the University of Dhaka in 1975 and 1976 respectively. His contribution to Bangladesh civil service is illustrious. In his long career, apart from serving ERD in many capacities, he also acted as Alternate Executive Director, Asian Development Bank in Manila, as Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as Secretary, Ministry of Communications, as Member of the Planning Commission, as Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and as Chairman of Bangladesh Tariff Commission. He is a prolific translator and has translated about fifteen important pieces including Franz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth, Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Akbar Ali Khan’s Discovery of Bangladesh: Explorations into Dynamics of a Hidden Nation, Alain Badiou’s In Praise of Love, Albert Schweitzer’s The Decay and Restoration of Civilization.
